Make Every Experience Count

Make Every Experience Count

I’m reading Mark Cuban‘s book How to Win at the Sport of Business: If I Can Do It You Can Do It.  Awesome book!  Why?  Because he talks so much about the experiences he had leading up to the person he is today (a super successful entrepreneur, owner of the Dallas Mavericks and of course star of my favorite show Shark Tank).

But before all of that he found himself sleeping on the floor, working crazy long hours, getting fired and one day completely thrilled to have enough money to buy towels…yep…towels…read the book.  🙂  It’s inspiring and is a great resource for entrepreneurs no matter what stage of business they’ re in.

Some of us are exactly where we want to be in life while others aren’t even close.  Either way, every one of our experiences counts and help us become who we are meant to be.  It’s up to us to see every opportunity as a learning experience designed to help us make that next big leap in our career.

I used to work for a chamber of commerce.  It was one of the best experiences I could have asked for.  I learned so much about business and had the opportunity to work with both small and large companies.  I worked hard, had long hours and definitely learned a ton.  I saw some businesses explode while watching others never make it to three months.

There were times when I would get frustrated and feel like I wasn’t where I was supposed to be,  but I would always remind myself that all of these experiences are necessary for what the future holds.  For whatever reason I needed to go through what I did in order to make me a stronger and more successful person.

We all have a vision of where we see ourselves and while it’s fun thinking about our futures, it’s also important (and sometimes the only way to remain sane :)) to be excited about where we are now.  All of the craziness, frustration and “figuring things out” parts of the journey are what make it…well…OUR journey.  Hey, if it’s ours, we might as well make it super fun along the way.

Do you have a cool experience to share about a time where you learned to appreciate a not so perfect situation during your career path?  Comment below…we want to hear about it. 🙂
