13 Nov Life Is Better When…
A friend reached out to me because she wasn’t feeling quite herself. She was stressed, anxious, and overwhelmed. You know that feeling when things seem off, but you can’t quite figure out why. When I asked if she’d done anything differently this week, she couldn’t think of anything in particular. However, as we chatted, she realized she had spent much more time scrolling on social media than usual.
She’s navigating an interesting phase in life, contemplating a new career path. She’s been questioning whether to stay in her current role or venture onto something new. When we’re in that kind of mind space, it’s easy to turn to our good friends – Google, Instagram, Facebook, or whatever your favorite social media platform of choice. Yet, in doing so, we often get sucked into the black hole of comparison, perfectionism, and overthinking. That conversation got me thinking about when I’ve engaged in activities I know don’t serve me —procrastination, worry, or negative self-talk. To help my friend, I suggested she try something I do when I’m spiraling into oblivion. I use a simple journaling prompt: My life is better when… My life is better when… I journal daily I don’t spend much time on social media I hold myself accountable to do the work I said I’d do I surround myself with creative friends I spend time outside I support others I focus on what I can control instead of what I can’t I love this journaling prompt because it’s a reset. It’s a reminder that we have the power to control our thoughts and turn our day around. To make different choices. Better choices that we know will help us feel better so we can get back on track. What activities make your life better? And more importantly, are you committed to doing them this week and letting go of whatever isn’t serving you? Here’s to a beautiful week filled with activities that enhance your life.
